Osian Roberts – Jazz Saxophonist
Osian Roberts (Wales, UK) is an internationally acclaimed tenor saxophonist and arranger, renowned for his rich tone, deep understanding of the jazz tradition and his ability to perform sensitively, melodic improvisation. He is considered one of the most authentic exponents of hard bop in Europe.
He graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and soon established himself on the London jazz scene, where he collaborated with legends such as Cedar Walton, George Mraz, Hod O’Brien, Peter Washington and Joe Cohn. In addition to performing in Europe, the USA and Asia, he also works as a teacher.
Osian’s style is based on the legacy of saxophonists such as Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins and Hank Mobley. His playing carries power, swing and lyricism – always with respect for jazz melody and form.
