Gilad Atzmon jazz artist

is a British jazz artist and author currently based in Greece. Gilad was born in Israel in 1963 and trained at the Rubin Academy of Music, Jerusalem. A multi-instrumentalist, he plays saxophones, clarinet and ethnic woodwind instruments. Described by John Lewis at The Guardian as the “hardest-working man in British jazz”, Atzmon tours extensively around the world. As a member of the Blockheads, Gilad recorded and performed with Ian Dury, Robbie Williams, Sinead O'Connor and Paul McCartney. Gilad has also recorded with Robert Wyatt and The Waterboys Steve Howe. In 2014 he recorded with Pink Floyd and is featured on their last album The EndlessRiver. Over the years, Atzmon's music has moved increasingly toward a culturalhybrid. In 2000 Gilad founded the Orient House Ensemble in London andstarted redefining his own roots. Their album Exile (featuring Dhafer Youssefand Reem Kelani) was the BBC jazz album of the year in 2003.

With his new touring band in Europe, Gilad returns to his jazz roots, although still inspired by Middle Eastern folk music. The international group features the best of the Czech scene – young talent Daniel Bulatkin on piano, Ukrainian bassist Taras Volos and Slovak virtuoso drummer Dušan Černák.
